Devoted to Welding Perfection

As nuclear fabrication experts we have supplied pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers and pipe systems to the UK nuclear industry’s most exacting standards since the 1970s. Stainless steel is the most common construction material although we have supplied equipment fabricated from the high nickel alloy material range such as Alloy C22.

Equipment fabricated is manufactured to the highest specification, ensuring all technical and safety aspects of each project are fully observed, and are in accordance with the very strict accreditation and associated protocols.

Our Salford and Tamworth facilities are experienced in producing a wide range of pressure vessels and pipework for leading customers in the nuclear sector and work to the highest nuclear specifications.

Working closely with NAMRC on their Fit4Nuclear programme, we’ve developed a range of working practices and facilities specifically with the nuclear fabrication sector in mind.

With Right First Time welding levels among the highest in the UK and client accolades for the accuracy and timeliness of its Lifetime Records (LTR’s) Langfields demonstrate a real understanding of nuclear quality requirements and display an authentic nuclear safety culture which drives high performance and continuous improvement.

Nuclear Safety

Nuclear Safety in operations is all about keeping Nuclear materials controlled and contained at all times. The consequences of a Nuclear Safety event are so devastating that we must ensure that it is virtually impossible for an event to occur.

In New Build Projects we do not have any nuclear materials. However, all the facilities we are manufacturing equipment for will become fully operational nuclear facilities and, a lot of our new build projects are adjacent to active facilities. Bottom line is, each phase of a project must recognise and establish the appropriate Nuclear Safety arrangements to safeguard future operations.

Nuclear Safety in fabrication is about realising the design intent, through quality of workmanship to protect our people and the environment.

The 4 C’s

All nuclear Licensed Sites utilise Nuclear Safety arrangements in order to minimise the potential of a Nuclear Safety event, these arrangements focus upon the 4 C’s:

  • Control.
  • Cooling.
  • Criticality.
  • Containment.

All activities carried out in Design, Construction, Manufacturing, Commissioning and Operations phases are all focussed on safeguarding the 4 C’s.

Weld Procedure Development

We have the expertise and experience to develop unique solutions for your welding requirements.

Our range of expertise covers all aspects of arc welding and a wide range of applications, among which are orbital welding, structural welding, overlay welding, hard facing and weld repairs. This can involve developing welding parameters for new materials or combination of materials and the automation of the process either for onsite or off site welding.

Metallurgical Analysis

We have the experience to be able to advise on the best test methods for your materials and components, and if necessary the expertise to help you interpret your results and apply them to your materials problems.
