Fusion reactors, if achieved, promise to bring the world near-limitless clean energy, tapping into the processes of the sun and stars to generate power here on Earth.
“Langfields was initially selected based on their expertise in precision manufacturing using 316L stainless steel. The contract was set up to deliver a vessel manufactured of seven sections. The full vessel was assembled in Langfields’s workshop with a combination of our own staff and Langfields’s staff.
Our experience with Langfields has been very positive, and a good working relationship was developed. Langfields took the time to fully understand our requirements and commented where changes might be made to improve the manufacturability of the parts. Tokamak Energy is working to accelerated time scales to demonstrate fusion in a spherical tokamak, and the on-time delivery of the vessel has kept the project on track.“
Graham Dunbar – Tokamak Energy
Langfields were delighted to work with Tokamak on the manufacture of the ST40 Fusion Device. Our experience in precision manufacturing using exotic materials proved invaluable throughout this testing project.
As of 6/6/2018 Tokamak Energy has achieved their goal of 15 million degrees Celsius, hotter than the centre of the sun. More in the article below.
“Nuclear Fusion is a new business sector for Langfields Ltd. The project has proven to be technically demanding from the offset, which the company has embraced throughout the contract, involving Tokamak in changing the manufacturing sequence to deliver a product to the highest quality.
We are extremely proud to have been involved in this project and look forward to the prospect of supporting Tokamak as they continue to develop this exciting new technology.“
